Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage (IHM) has a long and colourful history. It is based on a traditional system of medicine known as Ayurveda, practised in India for over 3000 years. Much of the joy of this therapy lies in its simplicity, effectiveness and accessibility – no special equipment is needed and with a few basic techniques
you can relax and soothe or invigorate and stimulate. IHM not only works on the scalp as the name suggests but also on the shoulders, upper back, neck, arms and sometimes the face too. These are all areas where we tend to harbour tension arising from poor posture or emotional stress. The various movements can help relax tight, uncomfortable muscles, ease stiffness, stimulate the circulation and drain away excess toxins thereby helping to relieve headaches and eye strain and increase joint mobility. IHM also helps to boost the flow of freshly oxygenated blood to the brain resulting in more clarity of thought and focus, greater concentration and better memory. Regular IHM can also help to improve the condition of your hair and skin and can be performed with or without the use of nourishing oils depending on client preference.
Having an Indian Head Massage can also help to balance the flow of energy in and around the body as four of the body’s seven energy centres are located in the areas covered during this therapy – heart chakra, throat chakra, brow and crown chakra.
Reiki/Energy Sessions
Reiki is an ancient healing system involving the gentle placing of hands on or over specific key positions on the body. It is not affiliated with any religion or belief system. The instinct to touch another with the intention to comfort and relieve pain is as old as time and human touch can convey warmth, serenity, healing and caring. The living body radiates warmth and energy and this energy is known by many names – Life Force, Prana and Chi to name a few.
Existence is vibration. The entire universe is in a state of vibration and everything generates its own frequency. Imagine that you could reduce your body down to microscopic size – you would be able to see clearly that nothing is solid, everything consists of nothing more than protons, neutrons and electrons all vibrating at different frequencies. You would discover that the chair you’re sitting on isn’t actually solid, it just seems that way because the atoms are vibrating at a low frequency.
It is thought that energy therapies such as Reiki may increase the vibration of molecules and as they vibrate they expand to create gaps in their structure. This allows the energy to filter through and release any energy blockages thereby allowing the physical form (ie the human body) to return to a more balanced state of health and wellbeing*
Scientific evidence shows that Reiki healing may improve psychological and physiological functioning by decreasing stress and pain and increasing your ability to cope. Anecdotally Reiki is thought to calm the mind, decrease general tension and anxiety levels and provide you with a place for quiet reflection.
